Youth conference on disaster risk reduction, organized by Red Cross Moldova.

On the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Chisinau Branch of the Moldovan Red Cross organizes on 12 October 2024, between 11:00 and 13:00, the conference “Safety for the future: young people trained in disaster management”. The event will take place at Digital Park and is intended for all those interested in emergency preparedness and disaster management.

The conference agenda includes the presentation of the results of a project dedicated to educating young people on safety and a disaster response simulation, giving participants the opportunity to better understand how these processes work and how they can contribute to disaster risk reduction in their communities.

The event is free to attend but requires pre-registration by filling out an online registration form, available here. The conference is aimed at the general public, especially young people interested in getting involved in emergency prevention and management.

The project is financially supported by the Municipal Grants Programme for Youth Organizations in the Municipality of Chisinau, initiated by the General Directorate of Education, Youth and Sport of Chisinau and the Chisinau Municipal Youth Centre, under the aegis of the Chisinau City Hall.

The new board game “The European Route” challenges young people to become ambassadors for Moldova. Try the game, see when and where in the article.

The MilleniuM Development Training Institute launches the innovative board game “The European Route”, aimed at young people aged between 14 and 19. This game gives teenagers the opportunity to explore the European Union and develop their diplomatic skills, promoting Moldovan values and culture.

Participants will take on the role of ambassadors of the Republic of Moldova, symbolically traveling through European capitals, promoting Moldovan products and learning about the history and curiosities of EU Member States. The game offers a unique opportunity to spend free time in an educational way and create new friendships.

Game sessions will take place on the following dates:

  • Saturday, October 12, between 15:30 – 17:30
  • Monday, October 14, from 18:00 – 20:00
  • Wednesday, October 16, 17:00 – 19:00
  • Friday, October 18, 17:30 – 19:30

VOLUNTalk: Young people in Chisinau celebrate the power of volunteering

Young people from Chisinau recently participated in VOLUNTalk to celebrate the impact of volunteering and share inspirational stories. The event was organized by the Chisinau Municipal Youth Centre and provided a platform for volunteers to share their experiences and achievements in volunteering.

During the event, participants had the opportunity to listen to motivational speeches given by the most courageous young people, who shared their journey in volunteering and how it has influenced their personal and professional development.

The Opportunities Fair, organized during the event, gave young people the opportunity to discover volunteering projects and initiatives from the Chisinau Municipal Youth Centre and other partner organizations. This fair was a source of inspiration for young people eager to get involved in community activities and contribute to positive changes in society.

VOLUNTalk aimed not only to recognize the work of volunteers, but also to create valuable connections between active young people and organizations that promote volunteering, thus highlighting the strength and importance of the volunteer community in Chisinau.

On Wednesday, 9 October, 25 young people from Chisinau participated in an information session organized at the Chisinau Municipal Youth Centre, within the project “Youth Rights at Work”. The session aimed to educate young people about their rights and responsibilities as employees.

During the session, participants learned essential information about:

  • Fundamental rights of employees;
  • The employment contract: what it should contain and how to negotiate it;
  • Working hours and pay;
  • The provisions of the individual employment contract.

These sessions are part of the project “Youth Rights in the Workplace”, implemented by the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova, in collaboration with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Moldova. The project aims to support young people in understanding and exercising their rights in the workplace, thus promoting a fair and just working environment.

The event was interactive, and young people had the opportunity to discuss problems encountered in employment and get answers directly from specialists.

The Volunteering Week in Chisinau continues with a new ecological initiative, “Eco Day”, organized on October 12, starting at 15:00, in the green area of the Lake of the Village Museum, on Airport Street. The event is an opportunity for young people eager to contribute to protecting the environment and creating a cleaner and greener city.

The sanitation action is organized by the Chisinau Municipal Youth Centre and is part of a series of events dedicated to volunteering, aimed at encouraging civic involvement among young people. Participants will be able to help clean up the area and promote a green and responsible lifestyle.

The “I Love Chisinau” Quest brings challenges and prizes for young people. This Quest is free and you can win prizes!

On 15 October, young people from Chisinau are invited to participate in the “I Love Chisinau” Quest, an event organized by the Chisinau Municipal Youth Centre in collaboration with the Intellectual Games Association of the Republic of Moldova. The event is part of a series of activities dedicated to the city, giving young people the chance to explore the historic center of the capital in an interactive and fun way.

The competition will include riddles and novel tasks designed to test participants’ ingenuity and team spirit. The quest will take place in the Valea Morilor park and teams will be made up of a maximum of five people.

Attractive prizes for the best teams:

  • 1st place: 3000 lei
  • 2nd place: 2000 lei
  • 3rd place: 1000 lei

Young facilitators in non-formal education ready to inspire the community: training sessions at the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center

Upon completion of the Youth Facilitators Training Program in Non-formal Education, participants are ready to share their acquired knowledge and skills. This program was designed to develop essential competencies in non-formal education, giving young people the tools to facilitate inclusive and open educational environments.

Presentation sessions will take place on October 12 at the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center, located on M. Varlaam, 90. Young facilitators will hold workshops on personal development, mental health, emotional and sexual education.

  • Daniela Melnic, 14:00 – 15:00 – “Initiation into Conscious Sexuality: Sexual Health, Sexual and Reproductive Rights”

Each session will explore themes important to young people in the community, providing opportunities for interaction, learning and collaboration. Program participants have been able to build authentic connections and a space of trust over the course of the program, and are now ready to pass on their knowledge.

The Chisinau Municipal Youth Center and the Chisinau City Hall kicked off the registration for the second edition of the Municipal Volunteers Festival. The event, launched on October 8, is part of the Volunteering Week in Chisinau and aims to recognize the merits of volunteers while promoting the concept of volunteering among young people.

The launch event was attended by Vice-Mayors Angela Cutasevici and Olga Ursu, together with Petru Grecu, Director of the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center. They presented the award categories and participation criteria, emphasizing the importance of involving young people in voluntary activities.

From October 7-13, 2024, Chisinau becomes the capital of volunteering, on the occasion of the Volunteer Week, held under the slogan “I choose to be a volunteer.” The event aims to promote young people’s active involvement in the community by giving them the opportunity to participate in various activities and share volunteering experiences.

On 8 October, volunteers from the Chisinau Youth Centres organized a flashmob “I choose to be a volunteer” at the Arc de Triomphe.

Asked why they volunteer, young people participating in the flashmob told us that they have the opportunity to learn about volunteering and discover new ways to get involved in the community

“Volunteering gives me self-confidence and I get a lot of personal and professional benefits,” says participant Ana Covali.

“I choose to do volunteering for my own development and to be as actively involved as possible in the change for a better and prosperous life in our city, Chisinau”, says Irina Munteanu, participant.

At the same time, the registration for the 2024 edition of the Municipal Festival of Volunteers was launched!

“The Municipal Festival of Volunteers is an event that comes to promote volunteering and civic activism in Chisinau municipality”, says Petru Grecu, director of the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center.

Participants will have the opportunity to compete in several categories, each representing an area where volunteers can have a major impact. The festival is aimed at anyone who has volunteered in 2024 and wants to showcase their work.
