Creativity in the kitchen at the Cooking Club at the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center

The Chisinau Municipal Youth Center hosted a new session of the Cooking Club, where young culinary enthusiasts demonstrated their creativity in the kitchen. Participants had the opportunity to experiment with fresh ingredients and prepare two special dishes that brought not only flavor but also joy to those present.

Under the guidance of the coordinators, the young chefs started with a simple but balanced recipe: Cous cous salad with vegetables and chicken. This dish was appreciated for its combination of flavors and the freshness it brings to the plate. The crunchy vegetables and tender chicken blended perfectly with the fine texture of the cous cous, resulting in a light and healthy lunch.

The culinary experience didn’t stop there. For dessert, the youngsters were challenged to put their skills to the test with a more sophisticated dish: Tiramisu pancakes with banana and mascarpone. This fine Italian-influenced dessert was a real treat for the taste buds. The combination of delicate pancakes, sweet bananas and mascarpone cream brought smiles on the faces of all the participants, making the atmosphere a good-humored one.

The Cooking Club at the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center continues to be an ideal space for young people to explore the culinary arts, learn new recipes and develop their cooking skills.

Two Moldovan students win first place in a global artificial intelligence competition with an innovative medical diagnostic app

Young Nikita Moglan and Daniela Malancea, students at the “Iulia Hasdeu” Theoretical High School in Chisinau, won first place at the Intel AI Global Impact Festival 2024, a prestigious global competition organized by the American company Intel. This is the first time that a team from Moldova has won first prize at this international competition, where thousands of young people from all over the world participated.

Their project was to develop an innovative medical diagnostic platform that uses artificial intelligence to provide instant diagnoses. The app is dedicated to patients in disadvantaged settings, such as remote communities, and healthcare providers. The platform is based on an extensive dataset that includes over 20,000 images and descriptions of lung, thyroid and eye conditions, facilitating quick and accurate assessment of symptoms.

In addition, the young people also created a website to extend the accessibility of the app, providing users with an easy-to-use digital solution with a major impact on communities with limited access to healthcare.

The students were mentored by their math teacher, Viorica Moglan, who played a crucial role in the success of the project. Thanks to her guidance, Nikita and Daniela were able to develop and implement this revolutionary solution.

For this accomplishment, the team was rewarded with a $5,000 prize, a laptop with an Intel processor, and mentorship opportunities provided by experts in the field of artificial intelligence.

The Intel AI Global Impact Festival 2024 competition took place October 10-25 and brought together 106 projects from around the world, selecting winners globally and by region. The team from Moldova shared first place with a team from China, which created an educational app, and a team from Singapore, which developed a soil rejuvenation project.

Nikita and Daniela’s success demonstrates the enormous potential of young people in Moldova in the field of technology and innovation, opening up new perspectives for the use of artificial intelligence to solve global problems.
