People in Need launches a call for proposals for media and democracy education projects

The non-profit organization People in Need (PIN) has announced the launch of a call for project proposals, offering financial and technical support to civil society organizations (CSOs) in the Republic of Moldova. The main goal of the initiative is to promote media education and democratic literacy in communities, with a focus on engaging youth and marginalized groups.

Objectives of the call

Selected projects will use the OWIS methodology to combat misinformation and encourage informed citizenship. Proposed activities will include documentary screenings, critical thinking workshops, electoral simulations and public debates. The focus will be on civic education in an electoral context, contributing to the active involvement of citizens in the 2025 elections.

Funding details

Each approved project can receive up to €10,000. The implementation period is between 6 and 12 months, starting in January 2025. Beneficiaries will sign a grant agreement and receive capacity building trainings in the OWIS methodology.

Eligible activities

CSOs can propose various activities such as:

  • Movie screenings and debates on human rights;
  • Media and democratic literacy workshops;
  • Mock elections and voter education campaigns;
  • Creating platforms for civic dialog and leadership development.

Projects that involve underrepresented groups, promote gender equality and have sustainability strategies will be prioritized.

The call is part of the INSPIRED Moldova project, funded by the European Union, which aims to create an enabling environment for civil society.   • Be between 25 and 35 years of age and have at least two years of experience in running a profitable business or social initiative;
  • Demonstrate commitment to develop or lead an existing initiative;
  • Not have participated in a US State Department sponsored exchange program within the last five years;
  • Have a solid knowledge of English (written and oral);
  • Be eligible for a J-1 visa and return to the Republic of Moldova for at least two years after program completion.

Note: Participants cannot be accompanied by dependents (spouse or children) during the fellowship in the USA.

Free training in social innovations for NGOs and social enterprises, organized by the East Europe Foundation

Representatives of civil society organizations, social enterprises and initiative groups from the Republic of Moldova are invited to participate in an intensive training in the field of social innovations. The event, organized by the East Europe Foundation and funded by Sweden, is part of the project “Active Citizens, Prosperous Communities 2021-2025” and aims to improve the capacity of NGOs to address social problems through innovative solutions.

Aim of the training

The main objective is to increase the skills of NGOs and social enterprises in implementing innovative social business solutions, using design thinking techniques and optimizing social impact in communities. This approach aims to build resilient and inclusive communities capable of responding quickly to contemporary challenges.

Training details

  • Dates: December 9 and 10, 2024 (participants can choose one day only).
  • Time: 9:00 – 17:30.
  • Location: Chisinau (exact location will be communicated to selected participants).
  • Language: Romanian (without translation).
  • Participation: Free of charge (the organizers provide coffee breaks and lunch, but do not cover transportation or accommodation costs).

Target audience

The training addresses:

  • NGO leaders;
  • Administrators of social enterprises;

Young people from Chisinau discover new passions at interest clubs organized at the Municipal Youth Centre

This week, young people from Chisinau had the opportunity to explore their talents and discover new passions by taking part in a series of interest clubs organized at the Municipal Youth Centre. The varied activities brought together participants eager to learn, socialize and enjoy new experiences.

Clubs that inspire and develop skills

1. Stand Up Club
Young people discovered the art of humor, learning to create jokes and funny stories through interactive brainstorming sessions. The activity was a space for free expression and developing creativity

2. English at the Center
In this club, participants practiced English communication skills through games and engaging discussions in a friendly and energetic environment.

3. Social Theater Club
Theater enthusiasts explored current social issues and contributed to the creation of an original play, expressing their opinions and creativity.

4. Cooking Club
Cooking enthusiasts learned how to prepare two classic recipes: Caprese salad and Tiramisu dessert. Under the guidance of an experienced chef, participants discovered practical cooking tricks and enjoyed the final dishes.

“Great news for Chisinau!” The announcement made by Petru Grecu, Director of the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center

Moldova’s capital is preparing to become the international center of the youth sector in 2025. Petru Grecu, Director of the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center, announced that the city will host the 36th General Assembly of the European Youth Information and Counseling Agency (ERYICA).

What does this event mean for Chisinau?

The event will bring together representatives from 26 ERYICA member countries and is a unique opportunity for the development of the youth sector in the capital. During this gathering, key topics for youth information and counseling will be addressed, emphasizing the importance of access to accurate information and support for the young generation.

In Chisinau Local Councils of Pupils have been established in each sector of the capital!

Students in the capital have taken an important step towards active involvement in the school community by setting up Local Student Councils in each sector of Chisinau municipality. The event brought together student representatives from various educational institutions, marking the beginning of a new phase in which the voice of young people will play a key role.

During the meetings, the student councillors discussed the first steps for the activities in the coming period and received the badges attesting their involvement in the Local Student Council. The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Petru Grecu, director of the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center, and Mrs. Victoria Mereacre, senior specialist at the General Directorate of Education, Youth and Sport of the Chisinau municipality.

What is a Student Council?

The Local Students’ Council is a representative structure that provides young people with a dedicated space to make their voice heard. It is made up of students elected to represent the interests of their peers, contribute to solving problems in the school community and organize educational, social and cultural activities. The aim of the council is to improve the school environment and develop a united and informed community.

Each Local Council is an integral part of the Chisinau Municipal Council of Pupils, thus strengthening a network of initiatives and projects coordinated at municipal level.

Young people from the Riscani Youth Center are creative! They improvised their own game “Twisted”

At the Riscani Youth Center, good mood and energy were the main ingredients of a memorable evening. Participants showed creativity and team spirit by improvising their own version of the game “Twisted”, which turned the activity into an unforgettable experience.

In the interactive game, the youngsters excelled in flexibility, balance and ingenuity, creating moments full of laughter and joy. The friendly and relaxed atmosphere was an ideal opportunity to socialize and develop team spirit.

“It was an activity that showed how much creativity and energy young people can bring together. Every challenge was a reason for fun and connection between participants,” said the event organizers.

 

The game challenges encouraged not only good humor, but also interaction, creativity and collaboration. In the end, each participant went home with a big smile on their face and unforgettable memories.
