The first and only female entrepreneurship hub in Moldova, GLIA Impact Hub, relaunches the global Technovation Girls program in the Republic of Moldova, offering 500 young women aged 16-18 the chance to develop their technological and entrepreneurial skills, but also to compete for an unforgettable experience: participation in the World Technovation Summit in San Francisco, in the heart of Silicon Valley.

Technovation Girls offers girls unique opportunities to develop innovative solutions to real problems, through programming, artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship courses. Between February and May 2025, the project will include workshops, mentoring sessions, a national pitch contest and at the end of the project the opportunity to participate in the San Francisco Summit.

The Euro Clubs and Information Centres of the European Union (CIUE) are an extensive network of multipliers of information on the contribution of the European Union to the development of the Republic of Moldova, the improvement of the quality of life of citizens, the tangible results of the continuous support offered by the EU and the opportunities that can be accessed by the members of the communities where they operate. Euro Clubs and Information Centres of the European Union contribute to the collection and dissemination of knowledge on European themes: policies, institutions, community programmes, neighbourhood relations, etc.

Municipal theatre and song competition in memory of actor Mihai Volontir, dedicated to students of music and arts schools in Chisinau  

Students of music and arts schools in Chisinau municipality are invited to participate in the Municipal Theater and Song Contest “Actor-Traveling Soul”, organized in memory of actor Mihai Volontir. The competition is aimed at young people aged between seven and 17 years old and will take place on February 28, 2025, at the “Valeriu Poleakov” School of Arts in Chisinau.

Participants will compete in three age categories:

  • 7-10 years
  • 11-13 years old
  • 14-17 years old

The competition includes three sections:

  • Dramatic art (declamators and theater group)
  • Singing
  • Light music

In the declamators section, students will interpret literary works according to age:

  • 7-10 years old: poetry, fable or a fragment of prose (up to 5 minutes)
  • 11-13 years old: poetry, fable or a fragment of prose (up to 5 minutes)
  • 14-17 years old: poetry, excerpt from prose or monologue (up to 7 minutes)

For theater groups, participants will present an excerpt from a play or a dramatization (up to 15 minutes), with texts belonging to writers from the Romanian space.

In the Light Music section, each contestant will perform two musical works from the national repertoire, one of which is a cappella. The participants will provide the organizers with the orchestral negative on digital support.

The competition is open exclusively to students of music and arts schools in Chisinau. Each institution can register a maximum of three candidates in each age category and a maximum of three theater groups.

All participants will receive participation diplomas, and the teachers of the laureate students will be mentioned with performance diplomas. The Grand Prize, the I, II, III prizes and mentions for each age category will be awarded. The cash prizes will be offered either in cash or by bank transfer to the legal representatives of the winners.

The contest is an opportunity for young people passionate about theater and music to demonstrate their talent and pay tribute to one of the most important figures of cinema and theater in the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Volontir.

Webinar on engaging young people in data reuse, organized by CNTM and The Data Tank  

The National Youth Council of Moldova (CNTM), in collaboration with The Data Tank and international partners, is organizing an interactive webinar dedicated to methodologies for engaging young people in data reuse. The event will take place on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. (Chisinau) and will be held in English.

The webinar is addressed to youth organizations, government institutions and international partners interested in integrating young people into data governance processes. The event is based on the conclusions of the international project NextGenData, an applied research project carried out in several countries and coordinated by The Data Tank, in partnership with Dasra (India), SOS Children’s Villages (Kyrgyzstan), Tanzania Data Lab and the National Youth Council of Moldova.

What topics will be addressed?

Participants will have the opportunity to discover:

  • Effective strategies for integrating data reuse into youth projects;
  • Practical examples and recommendations based on the experience of international partners;
  • Innovative methodology for engaging young people in the development of responsible frameworks for data reuse;
  • The impact of cultural and contextual factors on the implementation of the methodology in different countries;
  • Challenges and opportunities in the process of involving young people in data reuse;
  • A practical toolkit for engaging young people in responsible data reuse, aimed at professionals and organisations who want to adapt the methodology to their own context.

The Moldovan-Swiss project MENSANA – “Support for the reform of mental health services in Moldova” announces the launch of the second edition of the grant competition “My Community Promotes Mental Health”. The initiative aims to support local projects that promote mental health and strengthen collaboration between communities and mental health services in the Republic of Moldova.

Launched in 2014, the MENSANA project facilitates the implementation of mental health services reform in the Republic of Moldova, providing affected people with access to adequate services and recovery support. Currently, the project has reached the third phase of implementation, with the objective of developing an accessible, sustainable and responsive mental health system to the needs of the population.

At this stage, MENSANA aims for two main results:

  • Autonomous development of mental health services – strengthening the existing network to operate without direct project support.
  • Raising awareness among the population – promoting mental health, reducing stigma and supporting the inclusion of people with mental health problems.

What does the grant competition offer?

In the competition, two local projects will be selected to receive a grant of 10,000 Swiss francs (CHF). In addition to financial support, the winning organisations will benefit from:

  • Methodological assistance and guidance in the implementation of activities;
  • Support for communication and visibility;
  • Support from community mental health services and MENSANA experts.

Who can participate?

The following types of institutions and organisations are eligible:

  • Local public authorities (town halls, district councils);
  • Public institutions (social assistance, education, educational institutions);
  • Non-governmental organizations (NGOs);
  • Professional associations and trade organizations with non-profit projects.

Partnerships between several institutions are encouraged, for better collaboration and impact at community level.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible, proposed projects must include activities that:

  • Improve collaboration between communities and mental health services at the district or municipal level;
  • It raises awareness among the population through psychoeducation workshops, community events, mental health assessment sessions in localities;
  • Respects the principles of human rights, gender equality and social inclusion;
  • Combat discrimination, hate speech and disinformation;
  • Support people with mental health problems or other vulnerable groups.

Projects aimed at infrastructure, study visits abroad, scholarships or charitable actions are not eligible for funding.

How do we apply for the competition?

The competition takes place in two stages:

  • January 30 – February 28, 2025: Interested organizations must send a project concept (maximum two pages) and an estimated budget to constanta.popa@trimbos.md. The document must answer the question: “How will the proposed project promote mental health in the community?”
  • March 10 – 20, 2025: Projects selected in the preliminary phase will be invited to submit a complete application.

What should the final file contain?

  • Detailed description of the project, according to a model provided by the organizers;
  • Information about the applicant organisation and its previous experience (if any);
  • Copies of statutory documents (certificate of registration, statute, etc.).

The files will be accepted by April 18, 2025, and the final results will be announced at the end of April 2025. The winning projects will be implemented between May and October 2025.

How are the files evaluated?

  • The coherence and clarity of the project proposal;
  • The relevance of the activities to the objectives of the competition;
  • Estimated impact on the community;
  • Cost-effectiveness of the project.

Organisations that will not be selected will not receive detailed explanations of the reasons for the rejection of the application.

Project funding

The grants will be offered through a contract concluded between IP Trimbos Moldova and the winning organizations, in national currency, according to the exchange rate set by the National Bank of Moldova on the day of signing the contract.

The MENSANA project is supported by the Government of Switzerland and implemented by the Institute of Mental Health and Addictions Trimbos (Netherlands), through IP Trimbos Moldova, in partnership with Luzerner Psychiatry (Switzerland) and the Romanian League for Mental Health (Romania).

Funding opportunities for young people: Information sessions on grant programs at the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center  

The Chisinau Municipal Youth Center invites youth organizations and initiative groups to information sessions on the grant programs available in 2025. The event will take place on 8 February and will provide participants with essential details about the eligibility criteria, the application process and how to obtain funding for youth projects.

Schedule of information sessions:

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive direct guidance from specialists in the field. Through this initiative, the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center aims to support the development of projects dedicated to young people, facilitating their access to financial resources for the implementation of innovative ideas.

FREE IT course for young refugees and people from vulnerable communities (15-35 years old)!  

The Municipal Center for Adult Learning and Education in collaboration with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) announces the enrollment in IT courses focused on the Microsoft Office suite – Word, Excel, Power Point to improve the required digital skills and access the desired job, studies or hobby development.

The opportunity is open to young refugees with legal residence status in Moldova and members of the vulnerable host community aged 15-53 years.

The course can be taken through the following modalities of attendance

  • physical format at CMIEA or at Step IT Academy branch
  • Hybrid
  • Online

The course focuses on the acquisition of Microsoft Office components, lasts 7 weeks, starting in February 2025, and at the end, in addition to the graduation certificate, students can go through (at their choice) the Microsoft test and obtain a certificate that accredits the skills of using Microsoft Office tools, recognized anywhere in the world and which becomes a significant advantage on the CV.

The eligibility conditions for enlistment are as follows:

  • Young people from Ukraine who arrived in Moldova after February 24, 2022 and hold a status of legal residence in Moldova
  • Young people from local families facing financial difficulties or an income below the national average
  • Single-parent families: households headed by single parents who have difficulty meeting the educational needs of their children
  • Large families: families with several children who face challenges in meeting the educational needs of each child
  • Victims of abuse or exploitation: young people who have suffered abuse, exploitation or neglect and need additional support for reintegration into the education system
  • Members of ethnic minorities or marginalised groups
  • Young people who take care of minor children or elderly people

Note: It is necessary to present the supporting documents attesting the inclusion in a vulnerable category at the time of signing the contract, in case of their absence or the impossibility of presenting any confirmatory document, a declaration on one’s own responsibility regarding its absence can be signed.

Among the documents proving the degree of vulnerability, the following are accepted:

  • Unemployment certificate, issued by ANOFM
  • Certificate about the value of the monthly income, issued by the employer
    • Certificate of family composition, for large and single-parent families
    • Decision or medical certificate for people with disabilities
    • Affidavit if no document can be presented, but the person has a certain degree of vulnerability

Opportunity for law students: Internship at the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, organized by ELSA Republic of Moldova  

ELSA Republic of Moldova announces the launch of a new internship for students from law faculties, in collaboration with the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. This programme offers young people a valuable opportunity to familiarise themselves with the work of a key institution in the fight against corruption.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office is a specialized subdivision of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Moldova, responsible for investigating corruption and related crimes, as well as representing cases in the courts.

The internship is intended for students from law faculties, who are in the following years of study:

  • II, III or IV year of bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s students

ELSA Republic of Moldova (European Law Students’ Association) is an international, independent, apolitical and non-profit organization, led by and for law students and young lawyers. ELSA aims to contribute to the professional development of future lawyers through educational programs, international exchanges, internships and networking opportunities at national and international level.

Globally, ELSA is present in over 40 European countries, with thousands of active members. The branch in the Republic of Moldova annually organizes various projects, including mock trial competitions, conferences, trainings and internships in prestigious legal institutions.

Public consultations to support student organisations: directions for action and future initiatives  

On February 4, at the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center, public consultations on the Support Program for Student Self-Governance Organizations took place. The event brought together representatives of student organizations, providing them with a space for dialogue to contribute to the development of a more effective support framework.

During the consultations, several essential directions of action were outlined for strengthening the capacities of student organizations:

  • Methodological assistance for the effective development and management of student projects so that organizations can implement impactful initiatives.
  • Non-formal learning workshops focused on developing leadership and organizational management skills. These will include modules such as:
    • Communication and team management
    • Fundraising and project writing
    • Lobbying and advocacy techniques, conflict mediation
  • Organizing a Hackathon dedicated to the development and implementation of student self-government initiatives, giving young people the opportunity to turn ideas into concrete solutions.

These initiatives aim to strengthen students’ involvement in decision-making processes and provide them with the necessary tools to develop their academic communities.

This year’s public consultations are a continuation of the efforts started in the previous year, when proposals and recommendations were collected from student organizations and youth structures. The next steps are aimed at implementing the ideas discussed and developing new opportunities for students.

Youth Chess Championship: The opportunity to put your strategic thinking to the test! You can win cash prizes and it is intended for young people aged 14 – 25 years old  

Young people from Chisinau who are passionate about strategy, logic and planning are invited to participate in the Chess Championship organized by the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center. The competition is intended for amateurs and will take place for two age categories:

  • 14 – 17 years old
  • 18 – 25 years old

The event aims to promote the development of strategic thinking and concentration, providing participants with a platform where they can test their skills and improve their playing technique.

The top three players in each age category will be rewarded with cash prizes:

  • First place – 700 lei
  • Second place – 500 lei
  • Third place – 300 lei

These awards are meant to encourage the performance and dedication of young people who want to develop

their analysis and strategy skills through a game that has always been considered an art of thinking.
